Apartment Complex in Beer Sheva

During my tenure in the office of the Architect Eyal Itzkin, I was tasked to manage, from an early stage, the planning of a high density residential project in Beer Sheva, comprised of 360 apartments in 12 buildings of varying height. Over 38,000 sqm of net living space.

Beyond the high volume of units, being a challenge in itself, each unique building warranted special attention and creative solutions, due to a wide range of constraints, architectural codes and requirements, and inevitable systems integration and coordination. The relevant documentation needed included permit plans, sales plans, work plans, lists and details, done mostly in Autocad software.

The final product is a delightful residential neighborhood composed of 12 unmistakably related, though different, high-standard buildings of varying size and height, offering well-planned and well-proportioned attractive apartment units of different sizes and qualities.

Apartment Complex in Jerusalem

While working for the Architect Erol Paker, one of the projects I was fortunate to work on was a unique apartment complex comprised of three complementary buildings, tailored for a triangular lot. My contributions to the project include blueprints of lists and details, for aluminum, wood and steel elements and for the stone cladding, as is characteristic in Jerusalem. So too: permit, sale and work plans, as well as systems coordination with the various types of engineers involved in the project.

Most of the documentation was created in Vectorworks software.

Interior Design for an Apartment in Jerusalem

On a different scale, but no less interesting, was the redesigning of the interior of a 75 sqm apartment in the historic neighborhood of old Katamon in Jerusalem. Everything from room layout to flooring to the electricity and water system was revisited and thought out, so as to bring the 40 year old apartment into the 21st century. With careful consideration, certain architectural elements were added to improve the quality of airflow and lighting and the overall sense of space experienced by the resident.

Most of the documentation was created using Vectorworks.

Apartment Expansion and Renovation in Neve Daniel

This 130 sqm apartment was given an additional 15 sqm of quality living space, while transforming the layout of the living room, kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms into a well thought out ‘living machine’. Aspects such as direction and angle of natural light, views afforded from within and without, utility, acoustic and thermal considerations, combined with streamlined contours of the floor plan, give this newly renovated apartment a logic and coherence that make its beauty more than ‘skin deep’.

The initial plans were prepared with much interaction with the owners. Documentation offered included imaging and simulation in the beginning stages to help illustrate concepts, permit and work plans, blueprints of details and lists, and scale drawings of certain vertical planes needed to aid the various craftsmen. These were mostly done in Autocad.

High School Campus in Susya

One of the projects I was fortunate to take part in while working for Architect Erol Paker, was this high school campus, complete with lunchroom, dormitories, sports area and more. The buildings are nestled into the hilly topography of the area, which in turn gives each respective building its own set of considerations. The various structures reflect environmental awareness, which is the hallmark of the school, utilizing natural light and solar energy. It is quite satisfying to see kids fill the halls and use the facilities as planned.

High Rise Residential and Commercial Complex in Ashkelon

While at the office of the Architect Eyal Itzkin, I was tasked with managing the architectural planning of this interesting project, consisting of two residential towers sitting upon a commercial and office center. A ‘gateway’ of sorts to a newly planned neighborhood.

One of the unique issues here was the need to adjust the various upper levels of the structure according to the grid of the various levels and types of underground parking, which itself, in turn, likewise had to conform with constraints resulting from topography and relevant building codes.

Furnishings for a Yeshiva in Mitzpe Ramon

While working in the office of the Architect Erol Paker, I worked on some of the woodwork design for the Yeshiva building, including blueprints for the Torah reading table, with it’s built in charity box, and for the wooden paneling of the partition wall of the women’s section.

Winery and Event Garden in Gush Etzion

Expanding the already functional and highly successful winery, planned by the Architect Erol Paker years before, the task in order was to enlarge the restaurant’s kitchen, while moving the bathrooms out to a new detached structure. This – together with adding a shaded walkway between the two, and fully landscaping the area behind the winery as an event garden.

This was one of the first things I worked on at Erol’s office, from the initial planning stages, down through producing blueprints for permit and work plans, details and lists. The satisfying results are there to be seen and experienced.

Stepped Residential Neighborhood in Kiryat Arba

One of the various types of architectural planning I was fortunate to experience at the office of the Architect Erol Paker, was of stepped apartment buildings. Given the dramatic topography of the proposed lots, the lower apartments could not congruently sit one on top of the other. Much creativity was needed to successfully deal with issues such as accessibility, plumbing, and safety, in adherence to code. The outcome speaks for itself, as the beautifully stone clad structures tastefully ‘clothe’ the bare ridge overlooking one of the town’s main streets.
